Gathering Updates: New CDC Guidelines

We are encouraged by the CDC and the City of Denver’s recent announcement that vaccinated people can go without wearing masks in most indoor and all outdoor environments.

In light of this public health guidance, the leadership team of The Summit Church has decided to make the following changes to our gatherings:

  • In keeping with the CDC’s most recent recommendation, vaccinated adults are no longer required to wear masks within our church building starting this Sunday, May 23. We encourage you to be mindful of others’ preferences as you find seats and engage in worship.

  • Consistent with local school districts’ current policies, masks will still be required for everyone in Summit Kids (volunteers, parents, and children three and older).

  • Additionally, starting on May 30, we will transition to two Sunday gatherings — 9:00am and 11:00am — and we will be eliminating pre-registration. Summit Kids will only be available at the 9:00am gathering.

  • For those who are high risk or simply do not feel comfortable gathering in person, we will continue to offer our livestream at 11am. You can access the stream here.

A word from our pastors:

Many of us who are part of The Summit Church family have grown accustomed to mask wearing. We realize that this has become a politicized and disheartening point of public debate and that it will take a while for many people to feel comfortable going without a mask. After all, there are legitimate reasons for people to continue wearing masks (e.g., they can’t be vaccinated for health reasons, are symptomatic, or just feel safer with one on).  This is okay, and should not be a point of contention.

As we interact with others who have differences of opinion, we must continue to be led by the Spirit whose fruit in our lives is marked by love, peace, patience, kindness, and gentleness with one another (Gal. 5:22-23). We know Satan would love to see additional fractures and division within the church (1 Peter 5:8), so we invite you to pray with us for a spirit of unity, sympathy, and humility (1 Peter 3:8) as we build new rhythms of gathering together for worship, community, and mission.

Grace and peace.
