As we continue through the Gospel According to Mark we see Jesus choose to engage, rather than avoid, marginalized individuals.

I have always fought change. Growing up in a family that moved to a new city every few years not only forced me to adapt to change, but it also became one of the few constants in my life.

Of all the people whose lives have had a strong influence on me, one person in particular that I am especially grateful for is my younger brother Scott, for his pursuit of Jesus and living out the Gospel message.

That first Sunday that I went to church with Taylor I gave my life to Christ. In short, it was a miracle, and it all started with a simple invitation to join a stranger in going to church.

It was my first time I had ever been to Denver and the only thing I knew about it was that my “crazy” Christian uncle lived there. Within 48 hours of me getting placed in juvenile detention he was right there to visit me.

Would you believe me if I told you that I found Christ because of an auto-belay?

I remember clearly when I first met Ashley; she just appeared at my freshman dorm room one night while I was writing a paper. I didn’t know that God would use that chance encounter and the friendship that followed to drastically change my life.

I just had this feeling there should be more to all of this and my immediate priorities didn’t offer sustainable hope. It was right around that time I was welcomed to the Summit.

There have been plenty of times in our marriage that God has taught us the power in trusting Him who loves us to infinitely, but never more so than when we decided to buy a house in the city of Denver.

When I think of the Summit, I think of two things: Life Change (personally and collectively) and Family.

As I reflect over the past 4 years at the Summit, the church has grown to be such a safe place for my mess. Yet, it has also served as an example to me of how God responds to our mess.

If I remember correctly, I think we were the only people that were not part of the group that moved from North Carolina. But even though we were outsiders, we were treated as family.

Back in 2010, when I was an upcoming senior in college, I heard two strangers speak about planting a church in the city of Denver. I wanted to go.

I feel like one of the most significant growing pains for us as a church over the last four years (but also a tremendous area of growth) has been not just throwing out the word “community” because it’s trendy right now, but to have both an understanding of what that word means and a plan for how we’ll deliver on that promise.

As I consider that this week is the four year anniversary of Megan and I arriving in our new home of Denver, I believe the greatest gift God has given us has been the opportunity to taste and see the goodness of the gospel for ourselves.

This past Sunday we cast the vision for where we're heading as a church in 2014 and beyond. The one thing we're asking God for in 2014 is for Him to multiply us.
